FAQ
Getting Started
What is Nitro.Film?
Nitro.Film is a curated streaming platform for classic cinema — hand-picked public domain films, golden age radio theatre, and vintage music, all in one place. Every title in the catalog has been personally selected. No algorithm-driven filler.
The app also includes Roger, an AI film guide built around the spirit of classic film criticism, and the Hollywood History Timeline — an interactive editorial journey through the eras of cinema history.
What devices is Nitro.Film available on?
Nitro.Film is available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, Roku, and as a web app at nitro.film.
Do I need an account to watch?
An account is required to access the full catalog. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email and password. Creating an account takes less than a minute and lets us sync your watchlist, continue watching progress, and personalize recommendations across all your devices.
How do I create an account?
Open the app and tap Sign In. You can create an account using Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or your email address. If you use email, you'll receive a verification link before your account is activated.
Didn't get the email confirmation?
The email confirmation is sent to the email address you signed up with when you create an account with an email and password. If it's been a few minutes and you don't see it in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder. Some email providers remove links from emails that go to the spam folder. If you are unable to click the link to confirm your email address, try viewing the email in a web browser. If you still have problems, please reach out to support@nitro.film and we will gladly help you out.
Films & Content
What's in the catalog?
All films on Nitro.Film are in the public domain — their copyright has expired, which means they can be legally streamed and distributed freely. There's no catch. The catalog spans silent cinema through the early sound era, including works by Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Fritz Lang, F.W. Murnau, and hundreds of others.
Why does video quality vary between films?
These films are 80 to 130 years old. Preservation quality varies enormously depending on how well original prints were stored, whether a restoration project has been undertaken, and the quality of the archival digitization. Some films exist only in a single surviving print. We source the best available version of each title and note video quality in the catalog.
A film stopped playing or won't load. What should I do?
Films stream from the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library. Occasional slowdowns can occur during periods of high traffic on their servers. Try the following:
1. Check your internet connection.
2. Close and reopen the app.
3. Try again in a few minutes.
If a specific film consistently fails to load, please let us know and we'll investigate.
Can I request a film to be added to the catalog?
Yes. We actively expand the catalog and take requests seriously. Email us at support@nitro.film with the film title and we'll look into it. We can only add films that are confirmed public domain.
Subscription
How do I manage my subscription?
Where you manage your subscription depends on which platform you signed up on.
Web (Stripe): Profile › Settings › Subscription › Manage in Stripe. The Stripe Customer Portal lets you cancel, update your payment method, and view invoices.
iOS / Apple TV: Open the Settings app on your device › tap your name › Subscriptions › Nitro.Film.
Android / Android TV: Open the Play Store app › menu › Subscriptions › Nitro.Film.
Fire TV: Amazon › Your Subscriptions › Nitro.Film.
Not sure which platform you signed up on? Check Profile › Settings › Subscription — the panel shows the platform. If you still can't tell, email support@nitro.film and we'll help.
I have a subscription but it's not showing up in the app. What do I do?
On Profile › Settings › Subscription, pull down to refresh (mobile) or refresh the page (web). If your subscription still isn't showing correctly, please email support@nitro.film and we'll help.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancellation is handled by the platform you signed up on — see the instructions above. You'll keep access until the end of the current billing period after cancelling.
Can I get a refund?
Web (Stripe) subscriptions: email support@nitro.film with your account email and the date of the charge. We review refund requests case by case.
App Store / Google Play / Amazon subscriptions: refunds are handled by Apple, Google, and Amazon directly. Use their help pages to request a refund — we can't issue refunds for purchases made through those stores.
Your Account
How do I change my email address or password?
Go to Profile > Settings in the app. From there you can update your email address and change your password. If you signed in with Apple or Google, your credentials are managed by those services directly.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot Password and enter your email address. You'll receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account from within the app. Go to Profile > Settings > Delete Account. This will permanently remove your account and all associated data, including your watchlist, ratings, and watch history. This action cannot be undone.
If you're unable to access the app, email support@nitro.film with your request and we'll process it manually within 5 business days.
What data does Nitro.Film collect?
We collect your email address (or authentication token if you use Apple/Google), your watch history, watchlist, and film ratings. We use Mixpanel for anonymized usage analytics. We do not sell your data to third parties.
See our full Privacy Policy for details.
Roger — AI Film Guide
Who — or what — is Roger?
Roger is Nitro.Film's AI film guide. Ask him what to watch, what a film is about, who directed it, what era it's from, or how it fits into cinema history. He knows your watchlist and watch history, and his recommendations get more personal over time.
Roger is named in the spirit of classic film criticism — he's meant to feel like a knowledgeable friend who genuinely loves these films, not a generic chatbot.
Is my data safe with Roger?
Yes. Your conversations with Roger are secure and never shared with any third parties outside of the underlying language model used to power him. Your watch history and taste profile are used only to personalise your experience within the app.
You have complete control over your conversation history with Roger. Tap the history icon at the top of the Roger chat panel to view and delete your conversations at any time.
Roger says he's unavailable or I'm seeing a rate limit message.
Roger operates within daily usage limits. If you've hit the limit, he'll let you know with a message and the session will reset the following day. If you're seeing an error rather than a rate limit message, please email support@nitro.film.
